If the Foo Fighters want you to show up somewhere, you just do it,” Ben Gibbard tells Rolling Stone. So when Dave Grohl reached out to the Death Cab For Cutie frontman to ask if he’d participate in the Foos’ HBO documentary series Sonic Highways, Gibbard didn’t hesitate.

Laggies composer Benjamin Gibbard is no stranger to contributing to films.  Before scoring on Laggies — the new coming of age comedy starring Keira Knightley, Chloë Grace Moretz and Sam Rockwell — Benjamin Gibbard scored the Kurt Cobain documentary (with Steve Fisk), Kurt Cobain About A Son (2006).  Directed by Lynn Shelton, Laggies the film is out now nationwide (check show times).

Jenny Lewis & Johnathan Rice Score ‘Song One’ Starring Academy Award Winner Anne Hathaway, Film Opens In Theaters & VOD On January 23 | Pitchfork

A new Anne Hathaway film is getting a score courtesy of ex-Rilo Kiley frontwoman Jenny Lewis and her boyfriend/collaborator Johnathan Rice. Jenny and Johnny wrote a collection of original songs for Song One, the new film produced by Jonathan Demme. Lewis and Rice also collaborated on the score alongside Bright Eyes’ Nathaniel Walcott. (Read the full review at Pitchfork.)

 

Directed by Kate Barker-Froyland, Song One stars Johnny Flynn, Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway and Academy Award winner Mary Steenburgen.  The film is set to open in theaters and on VOD on January 23.  Stay tuned for updates on the soundtrack released by Lakeshore Records.  Watch this new trailer which features music on the soundtrack:

After The Fall Soundtrack Feat. Composer Marc Streitenfeld Coming Soon, Wes Bentley Drama Opens In Theaters & On VOD On December 12

Lakeshore Records will release the soundtrack to After The Fall, starring Wes Bentley (Interstellar, Gone, American Beauty)Vinessa Shaw (Eyes Wide Shut, The Hills Have Eyes) and Haley Bennett (Marley & Me, The Hole).  Featured on the album is the score by Marc Streitenfeld (The Grey, Welcome to the Rileys, Gladiator), an accomplished composer known for his collaborations with Director Ridley Scott.  Directed by Saar Klein, Oscar-nominated editor of The Thin Red Line and Almost Famous,  After The Fall won “Best First Feature Film” at the film’s premiere this past February at the Berlin International Film Festival (read the review at Indiewire).  The film opens in select theaters and on VOD on December 12.
