Throwback Thursday: A Look At James Gunn’s ‘Super’ – Score By The Belko Experiment’s Tyler Bates!

What do Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Liv Tyler and Kevin Bacon have in common?  They all star in James Gunn’s Super film (2011), with score by The Belko Experiment’s Tyler Bates!  The outlandish dark comedy should be on your required viewing list for all things James Gunn, whose latest film, The Belko Experiment (directed by Wolf Creek’s Greg McLean), hits theaters this Friday, March 17 (get tickets).  Preview the album and watch the movie trailer for a taste of this delightful cinematic throwback!

My favorite cue might be ‘Libby Goes Down’, specially for the part that starts around 4:01 which is a brilliant and powerful ending to a great track that has been building up to a finale. It is a mix of synth, electric guitar, percussion and choir. – Soundtrack Geek

Guardians Of The Galaxy Orchestrator Timothy Williams Scores On Red Sky!

With every film he composes, Composer Timothy Williams (The Darkest Hour, Super, Doomsday) embues his music with the heart of the story.  Lakeshore Records is excited to announce the release of Red Sky (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), with music by Timothy Williams.  Williams is also the Orchestrator for Guardians of the Galaxy, scored by Composer Tyler Bates (The Darkest HourSuperDoomsday, Watchmen), opening this weekend.  Red Sky (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) comes out on Tuesday, August 5th, but you can pre-order the album today.

Lakeshore Records: Red Sky (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), music by Timothy Williams

Collaborating with Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Tyler Bates, Williams’ goal was to realize Bates’ musical objectives and Director James Gunn’s underlying message of an intergalactic “family” comprised of a rag-tag group of space-criminals with heart.  The film has been described as a space opera — Marvel‘s answer to Star Wars.  With all the high adventure, pageantry and epic destruction, the comparison is an easy one.  With a team like Tyler Bates and Timothy Williams painting in the colors of the universe through the film score, expect the cosmos at your ears.

13 Songs For Alternative Superheroes

Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens this weekend.  The film from Marvel Comics stars Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America, who, as his name implies, is one of the world’s Most Finest Superheroes fighting evil and corruption.  Not all heroes are super.  Bad supers aren’t trying to save the world. They’re just trying to make their little corner of it better.  Sometimes, as we learn in the film Superbad, the greatest hero you’ll ever know is already standing right beside you; your best friend. Boop.

Lakeshore Records: Bad Supers - 13 Songs

In Super, Rainn Wilson stars as Crimson Bolt, a delusional man on mission to save his wife from an evil drug dealer. In My Super Ex-Girlfriend, Uma Thurman plays G-Girl, a heroine-scorned who strays so far from justice that she nearly becomes a super-villain. In Crank, Jason Statham plays the unstoppable Chev Chelios, a true anti-hero who wades through the criminal underworld powered by nothing but epinephrine and a desire to hear his girlfriend pick up the goddamn phone.  Here’s a playlist to celebrate those who stumble, trip, and fall into greatness – heroes who lose their way or have strange ideas about what constitutes a good deed.
