There is just an aura of coolness surrounding this film: Director John Maclean is a former member of “the great and influential and weirdly underrated Scottish group” The Beta Band, says Stereogum. Under his direction, Slow West invigorates the Western genre with a score by Jed Kurzel (The Babadook), who himself hails from one of Australia’s most acclaimed bands, The Mess Hall. Written by actor David Dastmalchian, Animals won the Special Jury Recognition for Courage in Storytelling at the SXSW Film Festival. Bobbie and Jude are a young couple living in their broken-down car parked alongside Chicago’s Lincoln Park Zoo. Their days are a continuous ritual of theft and scoring until they must confront the difficult truth of their relationship after one of them is hospitalized. Director Lee Toland Krieger’s Aunt And Uncle Play A Musical Role In ‘The Age Of Adaline’
Nancy McCallion is going Hollywood, and so is her husband, fellow Tucson musician Danny Krieger.
The couple makes its major motion picture debut in “The Age of Adaline,” a movie directed by McCallion’s nephew Lee Toland Krieger (“Celeste & Jesse Forever,” “The Vicious Kind”). Danny Krieger gets a one-line voice-over: “Keep it down in there!”; you’ll hear Nancy’s a bit longer as her song “Brighter in the Night” wafts from a car radio… But buy the soundtrack and you’ll hear the full version, the one she recorded on her 2009 indie album “Take A Picture of Me.” It’s included on a playlist that features Bob Dylan’s “Simple Twist Of Fate” and Jefferson Airplane’s “Comin’ Back to Me.” –Arizona Daily Star
