We could all use a bit of sunshine this winter! This week, we revisit Little Miss Sunshine, featuring score by Michael Danna and music by DeVotchKa! Mychael’s score to Alias Grace received an EMMY® Nomination last year, also released on Lakeshore Records. The classic film starring the ensemble cast Steve Carell, Toni Collette, Greg Kinnear, Abigail Breslin, Paul Dano and Alan Arkin earned two Academy Awards including Best Actor, Alan Arkin and Best Original Screenplay! The film also earned the Best Picture and Best Supporting Actress Nomination for Abigail Breslin.
In this edition, we take this time to appreciate Little Miss Sunshine, featuring one of our favorite on-screen moms, Toni Collette! The soundtrack released by Lakeshore Records back in 2006 features score by Alias Grace composer Mychael Danna, music by DeVotchKa, Sofjan Stevens, Tony Tisdale and Rick James! The album earned Mychael Danna and DeVotchKa GRAMMY® nominations, plus two Academy Award® wins for the film.
This year, we have a mother of a movie picks list for your Mother’s Day viewing pleasure! Our favorite moms include Norma Bates (played by Vera Farmiga) from the EMMY®-nominated A&E series, “Bates Motel”, and Grace and Frankie (played by Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, respectively) from the EMMY-nominated Netflix comedy series. Also see below for several more movie viewing suggestions. What is your Mother’s Day pick?
