GRAMMYs 2020: Nicholas Britell’s Academy Award Nominated ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’

The swooning score by Nicholas Britell harkens back to the hypnotic strings of his Moonlight soundtrack, this time infused with sounds of jazz instead of the chop-and-screw technique used for that last film. As in something like In The Mood For Love, the period details almost fade into the background, the film evoking a nostalgic mood without overdoing it on the popular music.” – Birth.Movies.Death

As we head into the end of the year, we take a look back at one of the most unforgettable film scores of the year: Nicholas Britell’s If Beale Street Could Talk!  The Barry Jenkins-helmed film and Britell’s score earned critical acclaim far and wide, garnering eight reviews over at Birth.Movies.Death, including a rapturous review of the score.  The film’s Regina King won the Best Supporting Actress Academy Awards for the film, Jenkins earned a nomination for Best Adapted Screen Play, and Britell received the Best Score Oscar nomination.

Stranger Things: Moog On Grammy® Nominees Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein’s Years Of Love-Driven Dedication To Their Craft

Moog checks in on Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein, the Grammy®-nominated composing duo who have been dedicated to their craft and love of analog synthesizers for years.  See the full story here.  While to some they may appear to be overnight successes from their widely-acclaimed Stranger Things score, these musicians (one-half of Austin band S U R V I V E), have been around the music scene for years.  The infectious soundtrack is part of the cultural phenomenon that is the Netflix hit television series, reaching iconic status in such a short time.

Their band S U R V I V E played a Moog showcase at SXSW 2013 and Moogfest 2014, and this week, they visited the Moog Sound Lab to sculpt new sonic worlds and share laughs over Thai food.

With a busy scoring and tour schedule, and now the GRAMMYs® approaching on February 12, we wonder when these guys get to sleep.
