Guthrie’s most high-profile collaboration may be with a director: along with Budd, he wrote and recorded the soundtrack to Gregg Araki’s cult hit Mysterious Skin, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt. This year finds Guthrie joining Budd and Araki for another film, White Bird In A Blizzard, starring Shailene Woodley, Eva Green, and Gabourey Sidibe. For this film’s soundtrack, Araki asked of something curious from Guthrie: to revisit his past for the film’s music.

Song One Opens In Theaters On January 23, Own The Soundtrack Feat. Music By Jenny Lewis & Johnathan Rice, Performed By Johnny Flynn Now On iTunes!

In a recent interview with The Boston Globe, Anne Hathaway talks about the music in Song One, how she feels about her voice and more. Opening this Friday, movie goers will get a chance to hear a little bit of her singing as “Franny.”

“Song One” is another [film] that captures the joy of being a music fan. Written and directed by Kate Barker-Froyland, it’s a tender tale of romance and family dynamics set against a backdrop of New York clubs and the indie musicians who make them so vital.

Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway heads up the cast of this musical film with co-stars Johnny Flynn, Academy Award winner Mary Steenburgen and Ben Rosenfield. Directed by Kate Barker-Froyland, the film features musical performances by Johnny Flynn as “James Forester” and on-screen performances by The Felice Brothers, Sharon Van Etten and Dan Deacon.

Oscar® winner Anne Hathaway (Interstellar, Les Miserables) stars as Franny in SONG ONE, a romantic drama set against the backdrop of Brooklyn’s vibrant indie music scene. After Franny’s musician brother Henry (Ben Rosenfield, Boardwalk Empire) is injured and hospitalized in a coma following a car accident, Franny returns home after a long estrangement and begins to use his notebook as a guide to how his life has evolved in her absence. Franny seeks out the musicians and artists Henry loved, in the course of her journey meeting James Forester (Johnny Flynn), his musical idol, whose success and fame belie a shy and private man. As a strong romantic connection develops between Franny and James, the question becomes if love can bloom even under the most adverse circumstances. From Inside Soundtrack By Gary Numan & Ade Fenton Now Available on Custom Vinyl

The custom vinyl edition of From Inside (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is now available for order. The vinyl jacket is a collectible work of art designed and illustrated by the film’s director, John Bergin, and is printed with a special “double shot” inking process. The double LP also includes a two-sided full-color insert with exclusive artwork and liner notes.

Based on the epic graphic novel by John Bergin, From Inside is the story of Cee, a young pregnant woman who finds herself on a damaged train slowly transcribing its way across a bleak post-apocalyptic landscape. Cee struggles with memories of her lost husband and the imminent birth of her child. The score is composed by Electronic and Industrial music pioneer Gary Numan and Ade Fenton.

Nightcrawler: James Newton Howard-Scored Film Receives Academy Award Nomination

Congratulations goes to Nightcrawler’s Dan Gilroy for his Academy Award nomination in Writing (Original Screenplay)! This James Newton Howard-scored film received critical acclaim since its premiere at Toronto International Film Festival in September.

And speaking of James Newton Howard, film music critic “Scorekeeper” named his score for Nightcrawler one of the Top Ten Film Scores of 2014:

What I love most about Howard’s music for Nightcrawler is its ability to perfectly convey a strong degree of “creepy curiosity.” I’m also tickled that Howard’s main theme is actually quite victorious. It’s absolutely appropriate for a hero or principle protagonist which Lou Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal) certainly isn’t…or is he? That’s the philosophical revolving door at the heart of this film which makes it one of my favorites of the year.” – Brian Satterwhite
