Society of Composers & Lyricists: Kathryn Bostic Wins Best Score For Independent Film, ‘Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am’!

Lakeshore Records congratulates Kathryn Bostic on her Outstanding Original Score For An Independent Film win at last night’s Society of Composers & Lyricists ceremony in Los Angeles.  Her score to the documentary, Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am, has been getting a lot of attention, especially as her song, “High Above The Water” from the album (out on Lakeshore Records) is on the Oscars shortlist.  Join us in celebrating her success!

The Society of Composers & Lyricists: Lakeshore Congratulates Partners on Six Nominations For The Inaugural Awards!

Lakeshore Records congratulates soundtrack partners on their six (6) combined The Society of Composers & Lyricists (SCL) Outstanding Original Score and Outstanding Original Song nominations!  Our partners who are nominated are comprised of two film and three television productions: Stranger Things (Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein), The Biggest Little Farm (Jeff Beal), The Handmaid’s Tale (score by Adam Taylor), Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am (score by Kathryn Bostic), and When They See Us (score by Kris Bowers). Described by The Independent as “2019’s Must-See Documentary”, Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am directed by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders (American Masters) opened in US theaters in June.  The score by Kathryn Bostic (Dear White People, Middle of Nowhere) is out now digitally worldwide on Lakeshore Records.  Earlier this year, Kathryn became first African American female composer to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Dear White People: Justin Simien’s Crowd-Funded Indie Film That Started It All

Before Justin Simien’s new Netflix series, Dear White People, there was the original theatrical film that started it all!  When the film opened in theaters, it broke domestic box office records for a crowdfunded film. (Indiewire)
