Winner of the 2014 Sundance Film Festival’s Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Talent, Dear White People is a sly, provocative satire of race relations in the age of Obama. Writer/director Justin Simien follows a group of African American students as they navigate campus life and racial politics at a predominantly white college in a sharp and funny feature film debut that earned him a spot on Variety’s annual “10 Directors to Watch.” When Dear White People screened at MOMA’s prestigious New Directors/New Films, the New York Times’ A.O. Scott wrote, “Seeming to draw equal measures of inspiration from Whit Stillman and Spike Lee, but with his own tart, elegant sensibility very much in control, Mr. Simien evokes familiar campus stereotypes only to smash them and rearrange the pieces.” [DearWhitePeople.com]

Merchants Of Doubt: Score By Mark Adler Coming Soon, Film Opens On March 6

Sony Pictures Classics has debuted the official trailer for the doc Merchants of Doubt, from director Robert Kenner (of Food, Inc. previously), that looks at the “pundits-for-hire who present themselves as scientific authorities as they speak about topics like toxic chemicals, pharmaceuticals and climate change.” Essentially, it sheds light on the various lobbyists and corporations that fight endlessly to deny facts in order to maintain a political/financial agenda in their favor. –Firstshowing.net

Lakeshore Records will release the soundtrack to Merchants of Doubt, featuring the score by Mark Adler (Food Inc.) coming soon to iTunes.  Directed by Robert Kenner (who directed the Oscar®-winning Food Inc.), Merchants of Doubt was an Official Selection at the Toronto International Film Festival and at the Telluride Film Festival.  A documentary about “the art of propaganda,” Merchants of Doubt opens in select theaters beginning March 6 via Sony Pictures Classics.  Stay tuned for more soundtrack details!

Inspired by the acclaimed book by Naomi Oreskes and Erik Conway, Merchants of Doubt takes audiences on a satirically comedic, yet illuminating ride into the heart of conjuring American spin.  Filmmaker Robert Kenner lifts the curtain on a secretive group of highly charismatic, silver-tongued pundits-for-hire who present themselves in the media as scientific authorities – yet have the contrary aim of spreading maximum confusion about well-studied public threats ranging from toxic chemicals to pharmaceuticals to climate change. Song One Behind The Scenes Exclusives: Nylon Mag Debuts ‘In April’; ET Online Premieres ‘Iris, Instilled’

But perhaps the most noteworthy discovery of [Jenny Lewis & Johnathan Rice’s] experience was the fact that once a song was written and accepted, any finishing touches that remained were at the discretion of the script (and ultimately, Flynn himself). “Johnny Flynn’s interpretation of our songs is very much his own. We had little to no input as to how he performed the songs and we think he performed the songs beautifully,” Rice pointed out. –Nylon Magazine
