Leonardo DiCaprio’s history as an environmental activist goes back before his 2014 appointment as UN Messenger of Peace, with a special emphasis on Climate Change. In 2007, DiCaprio produced The 11th Hour, a “first-rate documentary on ecology and the environment” (The Guardian) before his latest call to action in Before The Flood, which premiered to a global audience last month via National Geographic.
In both cases, like-minded acclaimed musicians Cocteau Twins, Sigur Rós, Lamb and composers Jean Pascal Beintus & Eric Avery on The 11th Hour, and Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, Gustavo Santaolalla and Mogwai on Before The Flood, teamed up in solidarity to support the cause. On Sunday night, Leonardo DiCaprio won his first Best Actor Academy Award® for his role in The Revenant. His Oscar® acceptance speech echoes the sentiments of his documentary, The 11th Hour. “Climate change is real, it is happening right now, it is the most urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating.”

The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Leonardo DiCaprio, producer of The 11th Hour (soundtrack released by Lakeshore Records) and a staunch environmental issues advocate, will be releasing a slate of environmental and conservation films on Netflix.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Netflix are teaming up on a slate of documentaries and docuseries that will premiere exclusively on the streaming service.
DiCaprio’s Appian Way has signed a multiyear first-look deal for nonfiction projects that will have environmental and conservation themes. The deal covers both original documentaries and docuseries as well as acquisitions.
