College: Shanghai Album CD Review | AllMusic

College - Shanghai album debuts on Lakeshore Records

Grellier also borrows from film composers including Angelo Badalamenti, whose influence is apparent on “Elizabeth Monterey”‘s breezy synth washes and “Mister Fang”‘s ominous textures. – Heather Phares, AllMusic

David Grellier, aka College, released his new full-length album, SHANGHAI, digitally through Lakeshore / Invada Records, with the CD and vinyl coming soon.  In anticipation of getting your hands on the CD, AllMusic conducts a thorough review of this highly-anticipated release, and you can read the full review here.  The album’s music being compared to iconic composer Angelo Badalamenti and music which could be placed in the next Nicolas Winding Refn neo-noir film are just a couple of the highlights!

Shanghai: College’s Long-Awaited New Album Is Out Now, Review at NewRetroWave

College - Shanghai album debuts on Lakeshore Records

My top cuts from this album are “Bloody Palms,” “Lipstick,” “Is It Time” and “TyphoonAlert.” The single, “Love Peas,” is less ambient and differs greatly from the other tracks on this album. It’s luscious and lachrymose, truly beautiful in it’s own right. – Andrew Zistler, NewRetroWave

NewRetroWave reviews College’s (David Grellier) new album, Shanghai.  A departure from his previous throbbing synth tracks like “A Real Hero (feat. Electric Youth)” from the Drive soundtrack, Shanghai signals a new direction for College with exploration of sounds in this dreamy homage to a 1920s Shanghai through melancholic melodies.  Read the full review at NewRetroWave.  See full album details below.

[Geoff Barrow & Ben Salisbury’s score] have a serious ’70s FM radio feel to them… The Free Fire soundtrack is just the latest example to prove that ’70s music will never go out of style, and I am totally OK with that. – Johnny Brayson, Bustle
