Invada Records and Lakeshore Records are thrilled to release a new All About Eve EP, featuring original music by PJ Harvey! The 3-track EP features three new never before released tracks comprising of demo versions of “The Sandman”, “The Moth” and “The Sandman” – a remix version by the stage play’s sound designer, Tom Gibbons.
And with the release comes the vinyl edition of the 12-track previously-released score album to All About Eve (Original Music) out now via our friends and partners at Invada Records! It’s been listed on The Vinyl Factory’s The 10 Best New Vinyl Releases This Week.
The music is suitably atmospheric and reflective, built on a bed of soaring strings and plaintive minor turns. It features the added joy of two songs written and performed by the play’s leads, with Gillian Anderson channeling Elizabeth Fraser on the haunting lullaby ‘The Sandman’. – The Vinyl Factory
As it transpires, All About Eve partly recalls Thom Yorke’s soundtrack for Suspiria – another largely instrumental project that amplified the artist’s gifts for conjuring moods full of murky unease, fragile beauty and wistful melancholia with only the briefest sketches. There is also something of the pensive soundtrack recordings made by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis – dominated by sparse piano playing and sickly, scraping drones. – Michael Bonner, Uncut
Uncut Magazine features PJ Harvey’s All About Evescore, the acclaimed stage adaptation by Ivo van Hove of the classic 1950 Academy Award®-winning film by the same name. All Above Eve – Original Music is PJ Harvey’s first full album release since 2016’s The Hope Six Demolition Project (Rolling Stone). This is a must-listen album for PJ Harvey fans. The play starring Gillian Anderson and Lily James was broadcast live to cinemas around the world on April 11. ALL ABOUT EVE ran at the Noel Coward theatre through May 2019.
Harvey’s melodic signature is all over the score as well, at times recalling the icy clarity of White Chalk and the ghostly remembrances of Let England Shake. This is particularly true of the songs she wrote for Anderson and James to sing; “The Sandman” and “The Moth” have a plaintive, fairy tale-like quality that evokes both of those albums. – AllMusic
Originally premiered on Pitchfork, “The Moth” by PJ Harvey features vocals by the play’s Lily James and you can listen to the song in full with official lyrics below. All About Eve – Original Music by PJ Harvey is out now digitally via Lakeshore and Invada Records!
