Earlier this year, music fans were treated to a sensitive story about “Franny” (Anne Hathaway) and “James Forester” (Johnny Flynn), two very different people who connect due to unhappy circumstances. Song One (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) — which charted to #15 on iTunes — features original songs written by Jenny Lewis & Johnathan Rice, and performed by the film’s Johnny Flynn, a musician-actor. Writer-director Kate Barker Froyland wanted to show how music brings people together.

But perhaps the most noteworthy discovery of [Jenny Lewis & Johnathan Rice’s] experience was the fact that once a song was written and accepted, any finishing touches that remained were at the discretion of the script (and ultimately, Flynn himself). “Johnny Flynn’s interpretation of our songs is very much his own. We had little to no input as to how he performed the songs and we think he performed the songs beautifully,” Rice pointed out. –Nylon Magazine
