In the June 2022 print edition of Empire Magazine, The Guest 2Soundtrack album comes in at Number 9 in their “Take 20 – This Month’s Film Moments That Matter” list! That April Fool’s “joke” turned out to be a soundtrack that’s no joke! Remember, this is the soundtrack to a film that does not exist–yet! The producer/writer and director of The Guest, Simon Barrett and Adam Wingard, respectively, have gone on record to state they have indeed been working on an actual sequel. “We’re talking about developed [sic] a potential sequel as a real project,” said Wingard in the May 2022 Empire interview.
This is true, I’ll admit the response to the soundtrack surprised me. I think we’ve finally landed on an idea that excites us and wouldn’t disappoint everyone, but it won’t be soon. Lots to work on first. https://t.co/5dTXtx6F7d
“Quayle mixes dark orchestration with vivid percussion, vibes, and electronics creating a sinister backdrop to the historical Watergate era series based on the acclaimed first season of the “Slow Burn” podcast.” – ComingSoon.net

The Guest 2 Original Soundtrack is a soundtrack to an imagined sequel—a film that does not exist. 2014’s The Guest, directed by Adam Wingard, written by Simon Barrett, and starring Dan Stevens as “David,” tells the story of a kind soldier who befriends a grieving family. After a series of mysterious deaths, the teen family members discover the soldier who seems so warm and caring is actually an unstoppable killing machine. For the imagined sequel, Wingard sketched-out story details and enlisted 11 bands to tell the story through the medium of music. Through a wide range of song styles and tones—coupled with very specific song titles and a stunning album cover illustration—we learn what became of David, Anna, Brendan and Major Carver after the events of The Guest. Russo’s score is both characteristic of his work (the synthesis of orchestral and electronic instruments, the layers of dissonance and harmony) and unlike anything he’s done before. It has a delicacy that is alternately eerie and soothing, even freeing.- Amy Woolsey, The Cultress

The song is transformed into an atmospheric, orchestral slow burn, a drastically different but compelling new take on the much more upbeat, Lennon-McCartney original. – Austin Trunick, Under The Radar
