Ian Hultquist Ramps Up The Dread With ‘The Walking Dead: Dead City’ Season 2 Soundtrack!

Ian Hultquist (Assassination Nation) returns as series composer of AMC Networks’ “The Walking Dead: Dead City” and we’re thrilled to share the track, “Rats In A Maze (feat. Sofia degli Alessandri)” from the soundtrack!  Listen below and get more album details.  Hultquist ups the level of atmospheric dread for season two with a foundation of dark synth work, heavily distorted bass and booming drums that evoke an increasingly chaotic post-apocalyptic Manhattan. The series, starring Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, is streaming now on AMC+.

Notes Hultquist: Season two of Dead City is bigger and badder than the first, which meant writing a score that could follow suit. It was a great opportunity to expand our characters’ themes from season one, as well as writing some new ones. More distortion, more drums and more chaos all come into play as our story takes off. There are some incredible action pieces that take place throughout the season, which really gave me an opportunity to push my writing on the score for the show to new heights. One of my favorites is the 8-minute-long action sequence “Attack on the Hudson River.” We’ve also got a new theme for our big bad character of the season, Bruegel. It’s a mix of dark, fuzzed-out bass mixed with propulsive drum beats & melting piano notes. I’m really proud of my work on this season of Dead City, and am over the moon to be able to release the soundtrack for fans of the show to enjoy!”

Watch the trailer for The Walking Dead: Dead City, Season 2:

The Walking Dead: Dead City follows the popular Maggie (Cohan) and Negan (Morgan) characters traveling into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan, long ago cut off from the mainland. The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror.

In season two, in the growing war for control of Manhattan, Maggie and Negan find themselves trapped on opposite sides. As their paths intertwine, they come to see that the way out for both is more complicated and harrowing than they ever imagined.
