Joel and Ethan Coen’s ‘Burn After Reading At 15 Years

Burn After Reading enters its 15th year in the expansive filmography of Joel and Ethan Coen.  And, it’s hard to imagine a Coen Brothers film without a score by Carter Burwell!  Burn After Reading (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) was also released this month 15 years ago on Lakeshore Records (see below for listening links).  If you’ve yet to experience the dark comedy/spy movie that is Burn After Reading, you’ll also appreciate the treasure trove of an ensemble cast: George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Frances McDormand, John Malkovich, Tilda Swinton, Richard Jenkins, and J.K. Happy Birthday, Carter Burwell!

Today, we celebrate Carter Burwell, award-winning composer of film and television scores including Lakeshore Records releases Mr. Holmes, The Fifth Estate, Fur, Burn After Reading, In Bruges, and the forthcoming Anomalisa.

Carter’s score for Mr. Holmes is on Variety’s Best Scores Of 2015 list and his scores for In Bruges and A Serious Man was recently performed by the Loudoun Symphony Orchestra for a tribute concert in his honor as he was presented with the “Distinguished Composer Award” at this year’s Middleburg Film Festival.  Read further to hear a playlist of Carter’s scores.

Happy Birthday George Clooney! Watch Two Of His Movies We Love

Well, this has been quite a month for Mr. George Clooney! First, news of his engagement to British Barrister Amal Alamuddin and now a birthday.  We couldn’t be happier for him. To commemorate this occasion, we take a look at two Lakeshore Records releases from George Clooney’s filmography, Burn After Reading scored by Carter Burwell (watch on HitBliss), and A Scanner Darkly, scored by Graham Reynolds (watch on WarnerVOD). Carter Burwell is the composer known for the Twilight theme and Composer Graham Reynolds scored Bernie, another Lakeshore Records release.

Burn After Reading features an all-star cast: George Clooney, Frances McDormand, Brad Pitt (a frequent co-star) and John Malkovich.  What happens when two gym employees stumble upon a disk containing the memoirs of a CIA agent and tries to sell it?  A Scanner Darkly is a visually-mesmerizing animated film starring Keanu Reeves and Robert Downey, Jr. In the not-so-distant future, Reeves plays an undercover agent who begins to lose his identity while getting involved with a dangerous new drug.
