The Academy Shortlists ‘Cartel Land’ And ‘Winter On Fire’ For Best Documentary

The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has shortlisted acclaimed documentaries Cartel Land, directed by Matthew Heineman, and Winter On Fire: Ukraine’s Fight For Freedom, directed by Evgeny Afineevsky.  Both films — with soundtrack releases on Lakeshore Records — are among only 15 nominees named this morning on The Academy’s Best Documentary shortlist.  Read the full story at The Wrap.  The 88th Academy Awards® ceremony will take place on Sunday, February 28, 2016.  Congrats to all the nominees!

Cartel Land: Matthew Heineman’s Shortlisted Film To Be Showcased At DOC NYC On 11/15

DOC NYC will present award-winning documentary Cartel Land on Sunday, November 15, as part of its Short List showcase.  The “Short List” is comprised of 15 films which will be given special attention at this documentary film festival.  Since its inception in 2010, DOC NYC has become a predictor of awards, including the Oscars®.  DOC NYC will screen approximately 175 films this year overall.

Acclaimed Doc ‘Cartel Land’ Qualifies For Academy Award Nominations

Cartel Land, director Matthew Heineman’s Sundance Award®-winning documentary has qualified for Academy Award® nominations! Since its theatrical release this summer, Heineman and the documentary have garnered multitudes of accolades, including IMDB’s #1 film indie film release for July and Indiewire’s  Best Reviewed Indie Film of 2015 list!.  Cartel Land (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is out now on Lakeshore Records.  The album features score by H. Scott Salinas (Zipper) and Jackson Greenberg, who created original music from instrumentation of the regions and incorporated authentic field recordings.
