Mark Kermode of The Guardian selects Ben Wheatley’s Free Fire movie (score by Ex Machina’s Geoff Barrow and Ben Salisbury) for film of the week!  See the full review here.  While the film is now playing in UK cinemas, folks across the pond will be suiting up for the US theatrical release later this month.

Free Fire’s sharp jukebox choices chime with Martin Scorsese’s role as executive producer… But it’s Ex Machina composers Geoff Barrow and Ben Salisbury who add musical light and shade, moving from a plaintive western-inflected Spanish guitar theme through squishy keyboard arpeggios to punch-drunk percussive jazz beats as the rhythm of the gunfire increases. – Mark Kermode, The Guardian

Free Fire Soundtrack: Geoff Barrow and Ben Salisbury’s Score Debuts on March 31!

Free Fire Soundtrack - score by Ben Salisbury & Geoff Barrow

Lakeshore Records, in conjunction with Invada Records, will release Free Fire (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) digitally on March 31, 2017.  The album features songs from The Real Kids, Creedence Clearwater Revival and two classic tracks by John Denver, plus original score by Geoff Barrow and Ben Salisbury (Ex Machina, “Black Mirror: Men Against Fire”).  Compiled by director Ben Wheatley himself, the soundtrack features the full score by Geoff Barrow & Ben Salisbury, dialogue from the film and license tracks (The Real Kids – Do The Boob // Creedence Clearwater Revival – Run Through The Jungle // John Denver – Annie’s Song // John Denver – This Old Guitar).  See full track listing below.

Free Fire sees Barrow and Salisbury take a huge directional curve away from their intense, synth-­based Ivor Novello award winning score for Ex Machina, with the composers curating a prog-­rock, free-­jazz, psychedelic journey influenced by bands such as King Crimson, Camel and Magma and tips its hat to the Lalo Schifrin thriller genre scores of that era.  The score features musical luminaries Clive Deamer (Radiohead/Portishead), Billy Fuller (Robert Plant/Beak), Jason Hazeley (Portishead) and Ross Hughes (Portishead), and Jerry Crozier-Cole (Pee Wee Ellis).

Free Fire Soundtrack: US Release For Score By Ben Salisbury and Geoff Barrow Coming Soon, Film Debuts at SXSW on March 13!

The North American soundtrack release to Ben Wheatley’s Free Fire movie is coming soon on Lakeshore Records!  The UK/EU release will be out via our wonderful partners at Invada Records.  The album features score by Ben Salisbury and Geoff Barrow (Ex Machina, “Black Mirror: Men Against Fire”).  The film, starring Academy Award® Winner Brie Larson (Room, Short Term 12), Cillian Murphy (Anthropoid, The Dark Knight) and Shallot Copley (The Hollars, Chappie), will make its stateside theatrical premiere on April 21, but SXSW attendees will get a first look on Monday night, March 13!  Stay tuned for more details.
