‘The Light Between Oceans’: Score By Academy Award Winner Alexandre Desplat Is Coming Soon, Film Stars Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander And Rachel Weisz

Lakeshore Records will release the soundtrack to The Light Between Oceans, starring two-time Academy Award® nominee Michael Fassbender (Macbeth, Slow West), Academy Award® winner Alicia Vikander (The Danish GirlEx-Machina) and Academy Award® winner Rachel Weisz (The Lobster, The Fountain).  The album features score by Academy Award®-winning composer Alexandre Desplat (The Danish Girl, The Grand Budapest Hotel).  More album details are forthcoming!

Directed by Derek Cianfrance, the film is adapted from the novel by M.L. Stedman.

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures presents THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS, in theaters Friday September 2.

Drive, Nightcrawler, Tree Of Life Named To ‘The 50 Best Films Of The Decade So Far’ List | Indiewire

Starring Brad Pitt and James Gandolfini Killing Them Softly was adapted from the book by George V. Higgins, “Cogan’s Trade.” The Dark neo-noir crime drama follows a hitman (Pitt) making the rounds. The album features an amazing mix of timeless and classic songs including “Heroin” by The Velvet Underground, “Moon Dance” by Carl Stone, “Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams” by Nico as well as an incredible cover of Johnny Cash song “The Man Comes Around” by famed guitarist James Wilsey!

In each of his five feature films to date, Malick has used classical music as his principal soundtrack. “The Tree of Life” features selections and snippets from more than 30 individual pieces — including works by Brahms, Mahler, Bach, Górecki and Holst. They are all woven together seamlessly with the help of some original music by Alexandre Desplat.

A movie that envelops the intimate story of a family between the birth and death of the universe, “The Tree of Life” is a cosmic experience that resists easy narrative summary. The film won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in May but has polarized critics and audiences. At its core, the movie focuses on the conflict between the natural and the spiritual worlds, which is to say that it pits the seen versus the unseen.

Malick’s choices of music stand in for the unseen in this thematic equation, though not always in obvious ways. The media-shy filmmaker is said to be a classical-music buff, along with being a birdwatcher and a hiking enthusiast. His soundtrack selections for “The Tree of Life” could spawn a lengthy essay on their own.
