In celebration of Nightcrawler’s theatrical release on October 31, ShortList asked some of their favorite artists to produce an alternative movie poster for the Oscar-buzzed film directed by Dan Gilroy and starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Rene Russo. With the exciting combination of Academy Award nominated Jake Gyllenhaal (for Brokeback Mountain), eight-time Academy Award nominated composer James Newton Howard and Oscar buzz for Rene Russo’s gritty portrayal in Nightcrawler, this film is generating a lot of buzz everywhere.
Nightcrawler centers around Lou Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal), a driven young man who is basically scraping by in Los Angeles. One night, he witnesses crime journalist Joe Loder (Bill Paxton) in action and decides to muscle in on this new career prospect. Things start to take off and get out of control after he meets news veteran, Nina Romina (Rene Russo), who enables him to pursue this new-found career, blurring the lines between observer and participant.
A fable-like horror mystery with strong comic and romantic tendencies, Alexandre Aja’s Horns draws on source material by cult scribe (and son of Stephen King) Joe Hill to deliver something much more beguiling than the straighter genre fare (High Tension, The Hills Have Eyes) that made his name. -John Fiore, The Hollywood Reporter
Lakeshore Records is excited to release Horns (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), the new soundtrack album featuring music by various artists: David Bowie, Trent Dabbs, Pixies, The Shivers, Marilyn Manson, Wanton Bishops, Eels, Brass Action, Junip, The Flaming Lips and Sunset Rubdown. “Another character, perhaps even more important than the visual imagery is the music and sound of the film,” said the film’s director Alexandre Aja. “It underscores the novel, as devil mythology is rich and pervasive in rock and roll history. It is not without coincidence that Ig’s family is a family of musicians, and that Terry is a trumpet player. (In fact the town name, Gideon is a reference to a trumpet playing angel in the Bible.)”
Horns, starring Daniel Radcliffe, Juno Temple and Heather Graham, opens in theaters on October 31 (check showtimes).
