Premiere: David Buckley Goes Dystopian For ‘Greenland 2: Migration’ Soundtrack

Ahead of the release of Greenland 2: Migration—Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, we are thrilled to premiere a track from the album featuring original score by Emmy®-nominated composer David Buckley (The Sandman).  Listen to “The Last Ascent” below.  The atmospheric score bristles with tension and deeply ominous tones providing an even darker backdrop for the sequel to the apocalyptic thriller. the Lionsgate-STX-Anton co-production is in theaters now.

Notes Buckley: The score moves into a far darker space than the original. The voices of hope that were integral to the first film are now corrupted and confused, as our characters struggle to navigate an unfamiliar, dystopian world.

A sense of hope for something brighter still lingers throughout the score, but it is constantly at odds with the unpredictable and the discordant. I’ve rarely worked on sequels, so it was an interesting challenge to pick up our characters’ musical DNA and reimagine it for this new reality.

It quickly became clear that a different tone was needed – more intimate, more pared back – allowing the music to sit closer to the characters as they confront a harsher, more uncertain future.”

ABOUT DAVID BUCKLEY

Emmy-nominated composer David Buckley has written music for some of the most compelling stories in film and television. His work includes Jason Bourne, The Town, and The Nice Guys, as well as The Sandman, The Good Wife, and Your Honor. He is currently scoring Season 4 of The Lincoln Lawyer and the Jason Statham thriller Shelter, directed by Ric Roman Waugh. His work also extends to the world of video games, including Batman: Arkham Knight and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

Beyond the screen, David continues to write for the concert hall. In 2025, his chamber opera Oracle — recorded by the BBC Concert Orchestra and premiered in Switzerland — marked a return to the classical roots that first shaped his musical voice. His concert works often explore the meeting point between tradition and modern narrative, between the sacred and the dramatic.

Born in England, David began his musical life as a cathedral chorister before studying at Cambridge University. After moving to Los Angeles, he collaborated with Harry Gregson-Williams on projects including Shrek and Gone Baby Gone. BAFTA later named him a “Brit to Watch.”

He is Visiting Professor at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
