We are thrilled to share a brand new score album released today, December 3 via Lakeshore Records: Sarah’s Oil–Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. featuring music by Emmy®-nominated composer Kathryn Bostic (Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am). Soaring strings, piano, fiddle and guitar create an uplifting backdrop to the film based on the true story of 11-year-old millionaire oil magnate Sarah Rector as told in the novel by Tonya Bolden. Listen to “Drilling Even Deeper” from the album below. Also featured from the film is “The Gift” performed by Tamar Braxton, which was released recently.
Notes Bostic: “Creating the original score for ‘Sarah’s Oil’ was a perfect fit for my musical Americana-bluesy instinct. Along with an orchestral palette to reflect the large vistas and landscapes was also the ability to use the sounds of smaller regional street musician ensembles which included fiddle, cello, piano, guitar, banjo and percussion. An overlay of my vocal textures added introspection to the narrative of this timely and important film.”

Sarah Rector became one of the world’s richest oil magnates at the age of 11 with her land inheritance in Oklahoma. Sadly, due to her lack of education and youth, many people sought her wealth and tried to take advantage of her life.
Sarah’s Oil starring Naya Desir-Johnson in her lead acting role after appearing in A Thousand and One and The Equalizer. The other cast includes Zachary Levi (Shazam, The Unbreakable Boy), Sonequa Martin-Green (Star Trek: Discovery, Space Jam: A New Legacy), Garret Dillahunt (12 Years a Slave, Deadwood), Mel Rodriguez (Little Miss Sunshine, CSI: Vegas), Kenric Green (The Walking Dead), and Bridget Regan (The Rookie, Jane the Virgin).
