EXCLUSIVE! Netflix ‘Penelope’ Series Composer Julia Piker Releases New Single (Listen)

Fans of the Duplass Brothers-produced “Penelope” coming-of-age series will be delighted to learn the song, “Growing Up” from the film will be released on digital music services!  Written and performed by composer Julia Piker, the single will be released on Friday, October 4 on Lakeshore Records.  We have an exclusive first listen of the song below.  

The song, a beautifully crafted atmospheric, reflective and ultimately uplifting work, encapsulates the transformative moment of moving on to a new phase of life. 

Notes Piker: “Growing Up’ is a deeply personal song for me, where I speak directly to my younger self about staying connected to the child inside while learning to accept the inevitability of change. It was the last piece written for Penelope, and it reflects my own experience of letting go—shedding parts of myself to make space for growth and transformation.” 

The young adult series created by Duplass Brothers Productions is streaming now on Netflix in the U.S.

ABOUT JULIA PIKER

Julia Piker is an award-winning Ukrainian-American composer and songwriter known for her innovative sound across television, film, and visual media. She is most known for her work contributing additional music to Blumhouse’s Speak No Evil, FX’s Murder At The End of The World starring Clive Owen and Brit

Marling, Amazon’s Outer Range produced by Amazon Studios and Hulu’s Unbanned: The Legend of AJ1 which premiered at the Tribeca Film festival in 2019. Most recently she has garnered attention from the Newport Film Festival for her score for Copyright Infringement, which is currently screening through the festival circuit.

Julia’s diverse body of work includes Netflix’s Pepsi, Where’s My Jet? Produced by Boardwalk Pictures, Hulu’s The Curse of Von Dutch: A Brand To Die For and additional music for Netflix’s Ozark (Season 4) supporting composers Danny Bensi and Saunder Jurriaans. Julia is the winner of the London International Award for her score for the short film The Talk which won The Outstanding Commercial Emmy award in 2018. Additionally, Julia has served as a juror for the prestigious Clio Awards.

 

Born in Brooklyn, NY, Julia comes from a lineage of accomplished musicians in the Russian Philharmonic, including her grandfather. She began her musical journey studying classical piano, eventually expanding to guitar, viola, and cello, instruments that often feature in her compositions alongside her ethereal vocal textures. Julia currently resides between Los Angeles and New York.
