In just a few weeks, your favorite independent film will get their due recognition at the 2022 Film Independent Spirit Awards ! Leading the pack is A24’s Zola, which received seven nominations including Best Feature and Best Director; Netflix’s Passing gets two nods for Best Supporting Actress (Ruth Negga) and Best Cinematography (Edu Grau); Pig (NEON)—in which we see one of Nicolas Cage’s most subdued yet performances yet–received a Best First Screenplay nomination and the Someone To Watch Award for Michael Sarnoski; IFC Film’s Catch The Fair One pulls no punches with the Best Female Lead nomination for writer/star Kali Reis; the deliciously chaotic Shiva Baby (Utopia) is in contention for the John Cassavetes Award (for best feature made for under $500,000); and Amazon’s The Underground Railroad received nominations for Best New Scripted Series and Best Female Performance in a Scripted Series (Thuso Mbedu).
These featured productions join almost 100 nominations at the 37th annual Film Independent Awards ceremony, set to return in-person to the beach at Santa Monica on Sunday, March 6, 2022. Which indie films will you be cheering on?
