The series, a production of Amazon Studios, Critical Role and Titmouse premieres today on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.  The first season will consist of 12 episodes, with three episodes premiering every Friday.

Based on the beloved characters and adventures of Critical Role’s first livestreamed tabletop role-playing game (RPG) campaign, The Legend of Vox Machina is an animated fantasy-adventure series for adults that follows Vox Machina, a band of misfits with a fondness for boozing and brawling. In a desperate attempt to pay off their mounting bar tab, these unlikely heroes end up on a quest to save the realm of Exandria from dark magical forces. From a sinister necromancer to a powerful curse, the group confronts a variety of obstacles that not only test their skills, but also the strength of their bond.

The series stars Critical Role founders and cast members Laura Bailey (The Last of Us: Part II), Taliesin Jaffe (Final Fantasy XIV), Ashley Johnson (The Last of Us), Liam O’Brien (Star Wars: The Bad Batch), Matthew Mercer (Overwatch), Marisha Ray (Final Fantasy XV), Sam Riegel (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and Travis Willingham (Marvel’s Avengers). The Critical Role cast also serves as executive producers, alongside Brandon Auman (Star Wars: Resistance), Chris Prynoski (Metalocalypse), Shannon Prynoski (Fairfax), and Ben Kalina (Big Mouth).

Says Acree: “Despite having so much inspiration to draw from in the world of Critical Role, the challenge was finding a musical voice that could navigate the humor, drama, action and emotion of the series and weave all of it together. A score that could compliment Sam and Peter’s wonderful songs, play the straight man to the comedy and resonate with the darkness just beneath the surface.

I knew I wanted to try to capture the excitement I felt watching Saturday morning cartoons as a kid but without sounding retro or campy.  I knew I wanted the music to be thematic, orchestral and as big as the stories being told. But for all the plans I had the show would often take me in completely unexpected directions. I’m grateful to have been given so much trust in helping to bring this vision to life.”

Adds Habib: “It was all laughs working with Sam to bring his character Scanlan’s songs to life. Because we sang in the same college a cappella group, I knew Sam could wail like an 80’s hair band frontman, but could also dial in the control of a seasoned musical theater performer. It felt liberating to have no boundaries in terms of genre. We got the chance to dive into funk, indie pop, rock, hip-hop, Broadway, and metal. It’s hard to think of a project that allows for such wide exploration and I’m thrilled to be a part of it. Neal’s monster score leveled up the adventure, and hearing themes from our songs interwoven in his work was so inspiring to me as a writer. I hope the audience will keep singing these songs long after the credits roll!”

Adds Riegel: “I’m always thought of as the ‘musical’ one in the Critical Role cast, but when we embarked on this project I got to learn from a true musical master.  Neal’s score isn’t just soaring—it’s tender, thoughtful, surprising and disturbing.  As a musician, and as a fan of Critical Role, he understood our tone perfectly.  As for the Scanlan songs—collaborating with Peter was a nonstop delight.  We got to be goofy, raunchy and wild.  And I’m pretty sure we came up with rhymes that have never before been heard in an animated series.”
