The Stand - Nathaniel Walcott & Mike Mogis | Lakeshore Records

Lakeshore Records has released The Stand—Original Series Soundtrack with music by Nathaniel Walcott and Mike Mogis—both members of the band Bright Eyes. The score ranges from intimate acoustic guitar-based themes to menacingly droning cues that encompass the wide range of moods in the series based on the book by Stephen King. Walcott and Mogis also collaborated with Durand Jones (of Durand Jones and the Indications) to create a new version of the song “Baby, Can You Dig Your Man”, the hit single for the character Larry Underwood (Jovan Adepo).

The Stand is available to stream now on CBS All Access, with new episodes dropping weekly on Thursdays.

“The Stand” is Stephen King’s apocalyptic vision of a world decimated by plague and embroiled in an elemental struggle between good and evil. The fate of mankind rests on the frail shoulders of the 108-year-old Mother Abagail and a handful of survivors. Their worst nightmares are embodied in a man with a lethal smile and unspeakable powers: Randall Flagg, the Dark Man.

Based on Stephen King’s best-selling novel of the same name, CBS All Access’ “The Stand” will close with a new coda written by the famed author himself. The coda will be available to stream on CBS All Access on Thursday, February 11.

Says Walcott and Mogis: ” Working on a score for a show of the magnitude and scope of ‘The Stand’ was a daunting but exciting process, made all the more surreal by watching the events of 2020 unfold, as we holed up scoring a show about a pandemic during a pandemic. But ultimately ‘The Stand’ is about much more than a pandemic, and composing and recording this score was an invigorating challenge that required us to draw from a wide musical palette in order to support the stories of everything from a society in collapse, the mayhem and murder of “New Vegas”, and the hope surrounding fresh starts and new beginnings.”
