DESCRIPTION
A group of seemingly wholesome young movie theatre employees are tempted and terrorized by a sex demon. And, when the five teen employees discover a mysterious old film hidden in its basement, they unleash an alluring succubus who gives them a sex education … written in blood.
Directed by Keola Racela, Porno was a production of the Sundance Film Music and Sound Design Lab in 2018 which partnered Racela and Patullo on the project after Patullo was selected as a Composer Fellow by Skywalker Sound and the Sundance Institute. PORNO premiered in 2019 at SXSW and was released in 2020 by Fangoria, which was recently acquired by Wanderwell Entertainment.
ABOUT CARLA PATULLO
Carla Patullo is a composer and musician based in Los Angeles. She creates diverse soundscapes for film and television, with sounds that range from raw industrial to lush orchestral. Carla’s credits include HBO’s MY NAME IS MARIA DE JESUS, the Sundance award-winning film SPA NIGHT, the SXSW horror-comedy PORNO, the Outfest selections LETTER TO ANITA and JEANNE CORDOVA, and the award-winning animated documentary LOTTE THAT SILHOUETTE GIRL (2018 IDA Shortlist).
In 2018, the Sundance Institute selected Carla as a Composer Fellow for the Sundance Film Music and Sound Design Lab, during which she developed her vocally driven score to Keola Racela’s delightful horror film PORNO which premiered at SXSW. In 2020, PORNO had its virtual theatrical release via Fangoria and Alamo Drafthouse, and is now available on VOD. VARIETY Magazine said, “Carla Patullo’s score is a nicely poker-faced channeling of fantasy-action soundtrack tropes from a generation ago.”
She has toured internationally with her band WHITE WIDOW, performing at festivals such as the Sundance Film Festival, SXSW, NXNE, and the Arezzo Wave Festival, and has music directed shows featuring artists Sandra Bernhard, Liza Minnelli, and Rufus Wainwright. Sandra described Carla on her album as “so fucking raw and groovy that it scares the shit out of me!”
In addition to composing, Carla is a prolific songwriter and has had over 100 song placements on Emmy and BAFTA award-winning shows, such as THE ELLEN DEGENERES SHOW (NBC), THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS (CBS), SKINS (E4), and in performances by Maddie Ziegler on the reality show DANCE MOMS (Lifetime).
“…blends laughably outrageous carnage with a legitimately scary plot to delightful ends.” – Indiewire
