Troop Zero: Rob Lord’s Score To The Amazon Studios Comedy Debuts!

Troop Zero - Rob Lord | Lakeshore Records

Lakeshore Records has released Troop Zero—Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, available now digitally on all major music services!  Composed by Rob Lord (I Am Duran, Apartment 12), the score is a creative and original mix of seventies Moogs, Mellotrons and electronics combined with traditional southern slide guitars, pedal steel, fiddles and banjos that conjures a “cosmic country” vibe for the heartwarming drama/comedy set in 70’s Georgia.  The Amazon Original movie is directed by the award-winning directing team of Bert and Bertie (Dance Camp, The Taxidermist, Worm, Phobias), who have worked with Lord on all of their films to date, and is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

In rural 1977 Georgia, a misfit girl dreams of making contact with outer space. When a national competition offers her a chance to be recorded on NASA’s Golden Record and become part of space history, with the help of an unlikely troop leader, she recruits a makeshift troop of Birdie Scouts forging friendships that last a lifetime and beyond.

Says Lord: “I received the script something like 18 months before shooting started and felt instantly inspired. I came up with the idea of ‘Cosmic Country’ as a possible approach to the music for the film and the directors and I agreed that it was worth exploring as a concept. The film was set in the seventies, about a little girl in the deep south obsessed with astronomy, Carl Sagan and the Outer Limits who would try to get her voice onto the Voyager Space Probe, so it made sense to try to combine seventies Moog synthesizers, Mellotrons and electronics with traditional southern instruments like slide guitars, fiddles and banjos and see where that might take us.

I also included tracks of musical Morse Code in the final score playing out the line ‘We Are Here’ from the script.  I recorded some amazing musicians and singers in the UK and New Orleans and once the main body of the recording was finished, we moved to Abbey Road Studio 3 in London.  Dark Side of the Moon was recorded there so it seemed like a fitting place for the orchestral sessions.”
