Haxan Rescore By Cemetery Gates Debuts, Remastered Film Heads To The Criterion Collection

Cemetery Gates — horror-centric film music composers and creators of “synth-driven death ballads” — has given the 1922 horror film an update: Haxan–Original Motion Picture Rescore is out now digitally on Lakeshore Records.  If you’ve seen the film previously, give the rescore a go for a fresh outlook.  See below for listening options.

Grave robbing, torture, possessed nuns, and a satanic Sabbath: Benjamin Christensen’s legendary silent film uses a series of dramatic vignettes to explore the scientific hypothesis that the witches of the Middle Ages and early modern era suffered from the same ills as psychiatric patients diagnosed with hysteria in the film’s own time. – The Criterion Collection

And to our dear readers: the classic film, Häxan has been remastered and is headed for the great video treasure troves of The Criterion Collection!  You can purchase the film October 15 on 2K digital restoration and DVD transfer at Criterion online

Sinister, nightmarish and up to par with the film’s otherworldly nature, the fantastic new score Cemetery Gates came up with is being introduced with a five-minute, hair-raising, synth-heavy cut, The Devil Fulfills Her WishesDestroy//Exist
