5 Must-Watch Movies New On Netflix And HBO Go For October

If you’re looking for a chill weekend in, we’ve got some great movie recommendations for you whether you’re a subscriber of streaming services like Netflix, or prefer to a la carte it on iTunes!  This weekend, we have a five films from a variety of genres: Wild Horses (crime, mystery), Brick (noir, mystery), Burn After Reading (comedy, drama), Little Miss Sunshine (comedy, drama) and The Lake House (romance, fantasy).  Get movie synopses and soundtrack details at the jump!

Texas Ranger Samantha Payne reopens a 15-year-old missing person case, and uncovers evidence that suggests that the boy was likely murdered on a ranch belonging to wealthy family man, Scott Briggs. When Scott’s estranged son unexpectedly returns home during the investigation, Samantha becomes even more convinced that the Briggs family was involved, and will stop at nothing to discover the truth about the boy’s death – even putting her own life in jeopardy.

The album features original score by Timothy Williams (Walking With The EnemyDebug) and tracks by various artists including Billy Joe Shaver, Justin Young, Nicole Maguire, Caitlin Eadie, and Roy Gaines and his Tuxedo Blues Orchestra, and the track, “Cheyenne” performed by Academy Award®-winning director Robert Duvall.

This Netflix original series premiered in August, but in case you haven’t made your way over to Narcos, about Pablo Escobar and the rise of the Medellin drug cartel, this critically-acclaimed series is part history lesson and part gritty drama — which makes it all the more entertaining.  Stars Wagner Moura (Elysium), Boyd Holbrook (Gone Girl) and Pablo Pascal (Game Of Thrones).  Accolades have poured in for the score by Pedro Bromfman and the theme song, named to Spotify’s Top 10 Most Viral Track in September!

In this “witty and assured” (L.A. Times) spin on film noir, a tough guy hunts down the killer who put his dame on ice–all pretty standard, except that the time is now, the place is suburban California, and the average age is 17. This detective tale puts hard-boiled 1940s lingo in the mouths of contemporary teens, using high school as the backdrop for murder and intrigue.

The Coen brothers meld sex, spies, lies, extortion and plastic surgery to form this darkly comic concoction.
