Halloween Month: ‘The Monster’ Kicks off The Natural Horror Collection

The Monster Soundtrack on Lakeshore Records

A subgenre of horror, natural horror features something in nature that poses a threat to humans, such as monsters.  In the 2016 film, The Monster, a mother and daughter encounter a  creature when their car breaks down by the woods.   Horror score veterans tomandandy set the mood.  Unlike what you might expect from a horror film, the score does not provide the expected jump scare equivalents but rather, take you on a journey.  Keep reading for soundtrack streaming links and more.

Halloween Month: Bates Motel TV Series

It would be insane to not include the Bates Motel series soundtrack in our haunted house week dedication!  While the infamous lodgings are not technically haunted, we would definitely rank Norman and Norma Bates’ hotel as one of the all-time scariest places one could ever dare to visit.  

Chris Bacon‘s EMMY-nominated series score album takes you through highlights from the first four seasons.  The fifth and final season originally aired in 2017 on A&E.

Halloween Month: Spooky and Haunted Houses Week – Castle Freak

We kick off spooky and haunted houses week with the 2020 remake of Castle Freak, starring Clair Catherine, Kika Magalhães and Jake Horowitz.  If you haven’t seen the original 1995 film starring Barbara Crampton, who is now an executive producer on this film, there will be no spoilers here.  H.P. Lovecraft is credited as one of the writers as the film is loosely adapted from his stories, “The Outsider” and “The Dunwich Horror“.  Also produced by the iconic Fangoria magazine and media brand, creepy and twisted film aficionados can tune into Castle Freak on Shudder.  

Legendary horror composer Fabio Frizzi lends his distinctive touch to the film’s score, which you can now stream on all major digital music services worldwide.

Halloween Month: Enter ‘The Void’

Named one of the Best Horror Movies of the 2010s (Rotten Tomatoes), The Void expanded its slimy, tentacled, nightmarish reach with a new VHS release this week in three variants (US delivery only)!  As of this writing, there are 10 copies left of the  Standard Edition, so better hurry!  The Void is now available to stream on Prime Video and Shudder. 

The soundtrack released in 2017 via Lakeshore Records remains a timeless, ominous playlist of its own.  Let us introduce you to one of the tracks just added to the Lakeshore Records Trick or Treat at Home playlist, “The Shape” by Menalon (below).  Which cues are your favorite from The Void (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)?
