Toydrum (stylized as TOYDRUM) is an electronic music duo, formed in 2011 by former Unkle band members Pablo Clements and James
Griffith. The pair work out of their Brighton based studio, The Toyrooms, where they have written and recorded their debut mini album, Distant Focus Vol 1 (2014), and the Evangelist (2015)
with Gavin Clark. In 2015, they composed and produced the score to London Fields; directed by Mathew Cullen and starring Billy Bob Thornton, Johnny Depp, Amber Heard, Jim Sturgess and Cara Delevingne. Clements and Griffith wrote and produced music for Shane Meadows series This Is England ’90s. The album called Evangelist, a projected they started with the late Gavin Clark of UNKLE and Clayhill. At the end of 2015
Toydrum finished the score to Christopher Smith film Detour starring Tye Sheridan, Emory Cohen and Bel Powley. The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on 16 April 2016. The
score has also been shortlisted for a BIFA Award. In 2016 Toydrum also worked with Alice Lowe on the score to her first feature film
Prevenge, which premiered at Venice and Toronto film festivals.
In 2017 as well as releasing the Prevenge score on Invada/Lakeshore, Toydrum released ‘My eye on youʼ. (To
rein-vision) on skint/BMG ‘My Eye on You (To Reinvision)ʼ, a
collective interpretation of their work thus far, running the gamut
from Nick Caveʼs and Warren Ellis’ rework of ‘Ive got a futureʼ to Trentemøllerʼs drum & bass-tinted electronica Verizon
of ‘Void and formʼ.
Get to know Toydrum (Pablo Clements and James Griffith formerly of UNKLE), the electronic music duo behind Prevenge movie’s “deeply haunting score!” In this interview with James Griffith at Dread Central, James walks us through the collaboration with the film’s writer, director and star, Alice Lowe, and how the duo went about scoring for a film that was a dark comedy with horror elements.
In celebration of the Prevenge movie theatrical release, Daily Dead caught up with the film’s composers, Pablo Clements and James Griffith (aka Toydrum).
