Director Matt Ross set the tone of the film early on by temping in music by Riceboy Sleeps, a collaboration between Alex Somers and Sigur Rós’ Jónsi.  Named among the best soundtracks of the summer by Entertainment Weekly, hear Alex’s first solo score and music from various artists including Sigur Ros in the separate Various Artists album in the playlist below.

Assignment X interviews composer Alex Somers on his score for the Cannes Film Festival Award-winning film, Captain Fantastic.   Alex talks about his long-time collaboration with his partner, Jón “Jónsi” Þór Birgisson of Sigur Rós, how they met at Berklee College of Music, and their innovative use of prepared instruments and technology to create their truly unique vocals and instrumentals.  Read the full interview here.  Captain Fantastic (Music From The Film) and Captain Fantastic (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) are both out now on Lakeshore Records.

During a key moment in the film about a family living off the grid who have to face the real world when tragedy strikes, the cast — Viggo Mortensen, George MacKay, Samantha Isler, Annalise Basso, Nicholas Hamilton, Kirk Ross and Philip Klein— break into an infectious, inspired cover of Guns ‘n Roses‘ “Sweet Child O’ Mine.” It’s a pretty terrific take and adds a heart-rending quality to the original tune. – The Playlist

 

Lakeshore Records is very pleased to release the Captain Fantastic (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), out now on digital and CD formats!  The album features original songs performed by Sigur Rós, Jónsi & Alex, Israel Nash and Kirk Ross. Actors in the film such as Viggo Mortensen, George MacKay, Samantha Isler and Annalise Basso, perform renditions of songs like “Scotland The Braver,” and “I Shall Be Released.”  Also featured is a rendition of Guns ‘N Roses’ “Sweet Child O Mine,” — hear it now exclusively at The Playlist.

Lakeshore Records will release the Captain Fantastic (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) both digitally and on CD July 15th, 2016. The album features original songs performed by Sigur Rós, Jónsi & Alex, Israel Nash and Kirk Ross. Actors in the film such as Viggo Mortensen, George MacKay, Samantha Isler and Annalise Basso, perform renditions of songs like “Sweet Child O Mine,” “Scotland The Braver,” and “I Shall Be Released” specifically for the film.

Alex Somers of Jónsi & Alex composed the score for the film, which is being released separately.
