For Earth Day 2022, we take our cue from this year’s theme, “Invest In Our Planet.” We shine the spotlight on five films which touch on different aspects of this theme to help us understand the world we live in with fresh eyes. Are we taking our planet for granted? Do we have time to fix our climate crisis? These are just some questions the films explore.
To accompany the films are five soundtracks which express the magnitude, the majesty and the urgency one may feel when contemplating the film’s topics. Watch the film trailers and listen to the soundtracks below.
It has been said that Earth Day should be every day, but on this occasion, we take a razor sharp focus on the films and their soundtracks dedicated to this time of reflection, education and re-commitment to mother earth.
Earth Day can be a time of reflection, education or re-commitment to the world we live in. Lakeshore Records is proud to have partnered with filmmakers and composers on climate change and environmental projects such as through last year’s Before The Flood release in which we, along with composers Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, Gustavo Santaolalla and Mogwai, helped raise $10k for terrapass, a charity that works to offset carbon emissions.
This year, we are pleased to present National Geographic’s A Symphony For Our World, which premieres tonight. This, and other Earth Day films below feature music by some of the world’s most celebrated musicians and composers.
Critics say Viggo Mortensen’s role as the off-the-grid patriarch in Captain Fantastic is his best role yet, and the Golden Globe® nomination is our evidence! See what critics have said:
“Viggo Mortensen get the role he was born to play.” – Variety

“The movie truly belongs to Mortensen; fierce and tender and tremendously flawed, he’s fantastic.” EW.com
Leonardo DiCaprio’s history as an environmental activist goes back before his 2014 appointment as UN Messenger of Peace, with a special emphasis on Climate Change. In 2007, DiCaprio produced The 11th Hour, a “first-rate documentary on ecology and the environment” (The Guardian) before his latest call to action in Before The Flood, which premiered to a global audience last month via National Geographic.
In both cases, like-minded acclaimed musicians Cocteau Twins, Sigur Rós, Lamb and composers Jean Pascal Beintus & Eric Avery on The 11th Hour, and Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, Gustavo Santaolalla and Mogwai on Before The Flood, teamed up in solidarity to support the cause. The soundtracks are out now on Lakeshore Records, and you can preview them below.
