“For half a century, the genius of the man born Noel Scott Engel has enriched the lives of thousands, first as one third of The Walker Brothers, and later as a solo artist, producer and composer of uncompromising originality.” (4AD)
Scott Walker, influential avant garde music icon, has passed away; he was 76. The news was announced by 4AD, the late musician’s label. One of The Walker Brothers’ most enduring hits, “The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine (Anymore)”, released in 1966, was a UK #1 hit single and a Billboard Hot 100 hit (#13) in the US. Musicians who were influenced by Walker include Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, Sunn O))) (a recent collaborator), Marc Almond, Echo and the Bunnymen and more paid tribute to him.
Lakeshore Records will release the soundtrack to On Her Shoulders, directed by Alexandria Bombach, the Sundance Award-winning documentary about human rights activist Nadia Murad, who survived the 2014 genocide of Yazidis in Northern Iraq and escaped the hands of ISIS.
The album features score by Patrick Jonsson, EMMY®-nominated film composer known for his work on Academy Award® and BAFTA-nominated feature documentary Virunga, and Academy Award®-winning Netflix short documentary The White Helmets, for which he was nominated for a Primetime EMMY® for Outstanding Music Composition for a Limited Series, Movie, or Special.
