The King: Nicholas Britell On His First Time Collaboration With David Michod | Deadline

Rooting his score in beautifully melancholic strings, playing at the bottom of their register, Britell incorporated brass, an “old analog synth,” prepared piano, digitally manipulated percussion, as well as the Trinity Boys Choir to capture “the sadness and darkness” of King Henry V’s world, with a score that felt timeless and appropriate for the tragic hero. – Matt Grobar, Deadline

An Interview With Academy Award Nominee Mark Isham, Composer Of ‘Warrior’ (Audio)

In 2011, Lakeshore Records sat down with Mark Isham on his score for Warrior (rent the movie on iTunes), directed by Gavin O’Connor (Pride and Glory, Tumbleweeds).  Warrior is a 2011 sport-drama starring Tom Hardy (Child 44, Mad Max: Fury Road, Inception), Joel Edgerton (Black Mass, The Great Gatsby, Zero Dark Thirty), Jennifer Morrison (ABC’s “Once Upon A Time”, Star Trek: Into Darkness, Fox’s “HOUSE, M.D.”) and three-time Academy Award® nominee Nick Nolte (A Walk In The Woods, Gangster Squad, Tropic Thunder).  Mark is an Academy Award®-nominated composer (his nomination was for A River Runs Through It).  Hear him break down his approach to scoring for WARRIOR: from action shots to the characters’ emotions.  Hear the interview below.
