Throwback Thursday: Happy Anniversary ‘Ingrid Goes West’ Starring Aubrey Plaza and Elizabeth Olsen!

This weekend marks the one-year anniversary of Ingrid Goes West, starring Legion’s Aubrey Plaza and Wind River’s Elizabeth Olsen!  Directed by Matt Spicer, the film won a Best First Feature Indie Spirit Awards and a Best Music Supervision nomination (Maggie Phillips) at last year’s Guild of Music Supervisors Awards.

 

The digital album features a playlist of synth and lo-fi tunes by Animotion (“Obsession”), K-Ci & JoJo (“All My Life”), Stacy Lattisaw (“Attack of the Name Game”) and more.  This trip down memory lane is brought to you by Legion Season 2: another production starring Aubrey Plaza!  The Jeff Russo score album comes to CD and hits shelves and online retailers on Friday, August 24 (order here)!

The compilation has just ten songs, but all of them play an integral part in pushing the movie’s stalker narrative forward. After all, how can you cover millennial angst on screen without a little dance pop? The soundtrack is an eclectic mix of genres that range from the aforementioned dance pop to new wave and even all the way to 70’s soul. The film manages to look at its characters with empathy and understanding, while simultaneously refusing to endorse their actions. And because of that, Matt Spicer’s directorial debut proves to be one of the more successful takes on the social media generation to hit the silver screen. -IGN
