Swallow: Read Nathan Halpern’s IndieWire Essay On His Retro Thriller Score | Yahoo! Entertainment

The score would dial into these more stylized cinematic and sonic aesthetics of Hollywood genre filmmaking of the studio era, while at the same time making sure that the emotions and sonic style was grounded in the inner life of a nuanced, character study. – IndieWire

Entertainment) about his collaboration with Swallow Director Carlo Mirabella-Davis (Knife Point, The Swell Season), the body-horror-meets-psychological-thriller now on VOD (get it here).  Halpern provides a written visualization of how his score dials in the film’s visual aesthetics and old Hollywood callbacks.  Lakeshore Records released his score, Swallow — Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, digitally on March 27, and you can listen to the album below.

Knives And Skin: Nick Zinner And His Breakthrough Film Score | Under The Radar

Knives And Skin Soundtrack - Nick Zinner | Lakeshore Records

To be sure, people identify Zinner with his axe… The guitar is still present, but unlike the angular shards and shreds that punctured Yeah Yeah Yeahs tunes, meeting Karen O’s high pitched vocals that fluctuated between furious and innocent, they are delicate, resembling the batting of eyelashes. Along with other mesmeric uses of strings, they come in and out of the shoreline sands of synth like low tide.  – Charles Steinberg, Under The Radar

Under The Radar magazine goes in for a deep dive with Nick Zinner, the composer of Jennifer Reeder’s new thriller, Knives And SkinAnd if that name sounds familiar, he is indeed that Nick Zinner, the guitarist of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.  But, Charles Steinberg wants us to understand that his score is not a Yeah Yeah Yeahs sound and Zinner’s efforts to push boundaries are evident, in this latest installment of his “Keeping Score” composer interview series over at Under The Radar.   A must-read!

Knives And Skin (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is out now on Lakeshore Records!
