Free Music Fridays: Ludwig Goransson’s Fruitvale Station Soundtrack

Free Music Fridays returns this week and Lakeshore Records is offering the soundtrack to one of the most-awarded films of 2013-2014: Ryan Coogler’s (Black Panther) Cannes Film Festival Winner, Fruitvale Station!  The film features score by Coogler’s long-time collaborator, Academy Award®-winning Composer Ludwig Göransson (Black Panther, Creed, Creed II).

The Fruitvale Station film is based on the events leading to the death of Oscar Grant, a young man who was killed in 2009 by BART police officer Johannes Mehserle at the Fruitvale district station of the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system in Oakland, California.

The ever versatile Composer Tom Holkenborg (aka Junkie XL), has made a career of producing compositions for blockbuster films such as Tomb Raider, Mortal Engines, Divergent, Mad Max: Fury Road and Dead Pool.  In 2016, he composed the score to Distance Between Dreams, the Red Bull Media House Films release which documented one of the most historic years in big-wave surfing.

Michel Gondry’s “Be Kind Rewind” is whimsy with a capital W. No, it’s WHIMSY in all caps. Make that all-caps italic boldface. Oh, never mind. I’m getting too whimsical. Maybe Gondry does, too. You’ll have to decide for yourself. This is a movie that takes place in no possible world, which may be a shame, if not for the movie, then for possible worlds. – RogerEbert.com

Do you remember when video stores existed?  In Be Kind, Rewind, Jack Black and Yaslin Bey (aka Mos Def) are a couple of video store clerks who re-shoot every film in the store after inadvertently erasing all the tapes in the inventory.  Sounds wild, right?  Lakeshore Records released the soundtrack back in 2008, and 100 lucky people will get a chance to own the music to this classic comedy!  See the track list and details on how to get your free copy of the soundtrack below.
