Lakeshore Records has had the privilege of releasing the soundtracks to the last two Randy Newman – Noah Baumbach collaborations [Marriage Story, The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected)]!  Check out this new interview now at Billboard, in which legendary composer Randy Newman shares the challenges of setting the tone for the score to Marriage Story.

This didn’t scare me; I knew I could do it, but it’s the first thing you hear and it is important. I was worried about, “Should this be an oboe or a flute?” Things you usually worry about.

New Soundtrack: Randy Newman’s Acclaimed ‘Marriage Story’ Score Debuts Digitally!

Let Randy Newman’s score gently break your heart – Vanity Fair

The “Marriage Story” score runs alongside less than a quarter of the film’s two-hour running time, but when it’s there, it couldn’t be more prominent, as Baumbach begins the film with a lengthy overture of sorts under a long voiceover/montage sequence, then turns it up between dialogue scenes. – Variety

 

Randy Newman’s critically-acclaimed Marriage Story score makes its worldwide digital debut on Lakeshore Records!  Randy just received a Best Score nomination from the Hollywood Music In Media Awards (HMMA), and won Composer of the Year at this year’s Hollywood Film Awards!  The vinyl edition of the soundtrack is coming next month, so stay tuned. 

Noah Baumbach’s highly-anticipated Marriage Story film, starring Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson, made its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival where it received a Best Film Nomination.  The movie won Best Film at San Diego International Film Festival stateside.   Marriage Story is now playing in select theaters and coming to Netflix on December 6!  See album links and more below.
