RED: Tom Schutzinger’s Intense Synth Score Debuts on Bandcamp, Live Action Short Film Stars Cate Blanchett

RED (Original Short Film Soundtrack) - music by Tom Schutzinger on Lakeshore Records

Bed is a brilliant and intense composition off the film’s score, a lively synth track which amiably matches the short movie’s darkness and fervency – Destroy/Exist

Lakeshore Records will release the soundtrack to Del Kathryn Barton’s live action short film, RED, starring two-time Academy Award® Winner Cate Blanchett!  The album features score by Tom Schutzinger (Somersault, Jewboy, Yolk, Lucky Country, Caught Inside and The Pack), formerly of the experimental electronic rock band, Decoder Ring.  The film is brought to us by Aquarius Films, responsible for six-time Academy Award®-nominated movie, Lion.

The album is currently available exclusively on Bandcamp, and you can hear the debut track, “Bed,” now exclusively at Destroy/Exist.  See track list below.

Aquarius Films presents RED, now screening through April 30 at the Art Gallery of South Australia (get info).

RED on Facebook

“RED pushes all the buttons in terms of being a visceral assault on the senses and imagination, driven by Tom Schutzinger’s fantastic, blow-torch-take-no-prisoners soundtrack.
I didn’t care if it did or didn’t make sense. The more insane the better with this genre I say” – The Adelaide Review

The spider footage is intercut with human movement by Blanchett, actor Alex Russell and Sydney Dance Company dancer Charmene Yap to deliver its message of sex, power, life, death and fecundity to the industrial rhythms of Tom Schutzinger’s soundtrack. – Meredith Booth, The Australian

ABOUT RED:
Red is a short film starring Cate Blanchett, currently screening at the Art Gallery of South Australia as part of the Adelaide Festival this coming January and will run from January 26 to April 30. After the gallery exhibit, a festival run is planned.

The dual-screen experimental project, from Australian director Del Kathryn Barton, delves into “themes of passion, sex and death, drawing on the symbolism of the female redback spider,” according to the Sydney Morning Herald. Its first preview shows Blanchett, clad in a full-body fishnet getup, writhing around on the ground before wrestling with a man.
